Default Wireless internet problem

hi guys, new to this forum so be nice

i live in australia and have been using a wireless internet network for about a year now. My internet is with optus and i have cable internet. ive been using d-link for a while now for my wireless internet. i have 2 desktops, one which is connected to the cable and modem, and a laptop. the laptops internet is usually fairly fast. but the other desktop computers internet is always slow, very slow. thats if it picks the signal up.

The 2nd desktop has nothing wrong with it and its still slow. ive tried with the laptop in the same area and the laptops still fairly fast. they use the exact same wireless internet tools, the 2nd desktop is at the other end of the house with 2 walls in the middle but if my old laptop can handle it i dont see why my desktop cant.

are their any suggestions for what i could do to speed up the internet on my 2nd desktop? anything from trying a different brand to covering the wall in tin foil.

You might want to try changing the channel the WAP broadcasts on... if you have a nic that can detect how much noise is on each channel.

I've always found laptops with actual wireless cards built in a far better than a usb wireless stick. Half the time I use them they disconnect or won't connect for no reason I can think of. Run wires - if you've got skirting boards in your house take them off and run a load of cat5, it's the only way! Or if your computers are all plugged into the same electricity circuit in your house, http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/defa...ShopGroupID=61
