Default Q9450 Vs E8400

Well I'm sick and tired of waiting for the Q9450...and who knows when they'll be released...since Intel is now having problems with them. I'm starting to think about getting the E8400 because (A) it's out right now, and (B) has a higher operating frequency than the Q9450 does.

What do you people think? I know the E8400 will be better in games...but what about everything else? I will be multi-tasking some and playing games as well. I also would really like to overclock as much as possible.

E8400
  • $239
  • Dual Core
  • 3.0 GHz
  • 6 MB L2 Cache
  • Out Right Now

Q9450
  • $316
  • Quad Core
  • 2.66 GHz
  • 12 MB L2 Cache
  • Who the Hell knows when it'll be available.

I say quad... 12mb l2 cache vs. 6mb, 4 cores at 2.66ghz vs. 2 at 3.0ghz, quad is more future proof than the dual, and most importantly the quad has more bang for the buck 79$/core on the quad and ~$120/core on the dual

This is just my opinion, I would like someone to show me why I shouldn't get a quad and why I should get a dual.

Buy a dual core processor because you want to save money for retirement?

Nah, I'll worry about that when I'm old and it's too late.
