Is this worth it?

I want a thin and light laptop for traveling. I have 2 questions:

1) Is this sufficient for watching DVDs, listening to music, using MS office, and doing some minimal photo editing? I will probably upgrade the ram to 256 megs.

2) Is it worth the price?

hmmm, for 510 i suppose, but the GPU isn't listed? That could be a sticking point if you want to watch DVD's. Yea, you should upgrade to 256 mb if yyou get it.

On no...not another iBook...
Take it from me, iBook is not worth it. Yes, you can watch DVDs, listen to music and use a rather awkward version of Office or Mac, but for one thing, it's used, and I've had many bad experiences with used computers. I say you're better off buying a brand new regular Windows notebook. They're a bit more expensive, but they all come standard with all the features of an iBook, plus larger HDDs, faster processors and a minimum of 512 megs of RAM. You can buy a brand new Acer laptop for only $600 at some stores (after rebates) that totally blows the iBook away. Not to mention it'd be brand new.

I bought an Acer for $600 and I love it. I looked at a few iBooks before, but went with the Windows notebook. Now that I've had mine for a while I can't believe I even considered an iBook.

I guess I should have been more specific in my post, but I’m an avid Windows and Mac user. I already have a nicely spec’d Windows desktop at home for gaming and heavy multimedia purposes. Like I said, I wanted a thin and light laptop for traveling. I’m more concerned about weight and form factor than specs. The iBook weighs 4.9 lbs and has a nice form factor. I’m not going to assume anything, but how much does your acer notebook weigh?

I have no problem with the “rather awkward version of office” that you speak of either. In terms of the notebook being used, the seller is well respected and is selling / has sold several macs. If all I’m doing is watching DVDs, using office, and listening to music, I have no use for a huge HD. I happen to prefer OSX to XP, but I built my own desktop, so I saved a lot of money by going windows instead of mac for that platform.

Ah, well if you don't need to worry about specs then go with the iBook I say.

I didn't know you were mainly concerned with the weight and stuff.

As for my Acer, it weighs...more than the iBook...a grand total of 6.8 lbs.

A laptop for travelling, watch out used ones as almost always they are having dying batteries. If the battery is not good, then I think you will lose the portability or will have to add to the price and buy a new battery, so consider the battery price added to the final auction price.
