Is it better to run two separate DVI/VGA cables from each monitor, or have a Y splitter one the monitors and then one cable back to the case? thanks

Thanks. I dont know what i am going to do. I have a HP vs17" LCD and would love to buy another on ebay for around $100 and run dualies but i have an issue.
Here at work we just got a new dell rig, 3gbs ram and E6850 (3 ghz) with vista, it has an older LCD monitor(like 3yrs old). It has some mouse lag all the time, which should not happen. Then there is this other, older dell, 3gbs ram, 2.4ghz CPU, and vista. The computer has a nice 22" widescreen new LCD and has NO mouse lag. Is the other computers lag attributed to the older monitor's possible poor response time? If this is true, it scares me to buy another older HP vs17 which has a response time of 16ms... suggestions please. Thanks
