Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty

I have got my self a nice sound card for all my gaming i was using a sound blaster live card with live drive.

I have changed cards because there was some sort of static noise as i was listening to music and scrolling on webpages,
After reformating my PC and then installing my new sound card im getting the same has anyone had this problem before?

Also some times when i turn my pc on the computer powers on fans spin, hard drive spins up but no POST or BIOS beep

Im thinking its a power issue, Let me know what you think,

My Rig is

Asus A8V-VM
AMD 4600+ 2.40Ghz
1GB Kingston Ram DDR
ATI x1300
Windows XP Pro
Water Cooled
500 Watt powersupply

My computer is not over clocked if this helps

No post beep points at a board problem being seen as the most likely cause! Static heard when using any sound card can be from a number of things like how the sound levels are set, speaker settings, jacks on the card used. other ac line IF, etc. even any appliances nearby.

there is nothing near the computer, like i said the sound card is new and all the cables are fine would it possible be cabling inside the case like powersupply cables? against the ribbion cable from the sound card to the live drive? or is it a possiblity that the powersuppy is on the way out i have tested a 300watt power supply and the static noise was worse?

also the sound is at a low volume and it still does the same,

i have tryed headphone plugged into my sound card and it does the same so i know its not just the live drive

Have you got any other ideas?

You mentioned not seeing the system startup normally with no post beep heard pointing at the board as being the likely cause. If the green led is on like many boards now come with the power is adequate and something letting go on the board itself would possibly cause a dc IF type interference like a cap shorting.

With XP one thing done some time back with sound cards was move them to the 2nd or 3rd slot due to the resource sharing problem seen in XP. The old 300w probably lacked the filtering seen with the larger models now out or simply made the interference problem more noticable. Now you have to find out if the board went doa on you since that may have a bad slot being another thing to consider.

ok i have had a go at putting the sound card in a differnet PCI slot and this has not sloved the problem, im going to be getting a 700watt power supply some time this weekend or next week and hoping that this will solve the problem im sure it is a power issuse i might test the card in a space computer i have that has nothing plugged into the PCI slots at the moment and see if i still get the same static.

just to make sure it is not my motherboard before i go spending money on a new power supply.

If there is anything you can think of im the mean time please let me know

That's still an odd one while the board itself seems more likely then seeing two bad cards in a row there. The post problem with no default beep is the concern since even a weak supply would get far enough to hear that while general post tests on drives and loading Windows would pull it down.

That's the actual first thing there when starting a system up. If there's no static or odd noises when used in the other case it would seem to point at the board problem now being realized rather then the supply. But having a good supply always helps regardless.

I will be upgarding PC soon to 4 gb of ram and a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 and a 700watt power supply

should solve all the problems anyway but will not be doing this tilll next month

But im looking forward to it,

Should be really fast well im hoping lol

With the upgrade planned there the replacement of the board will come along anyways by the look of things. I run the OCZ GameXStream 700w model here for covering the needs of extra drives with more planned. Plus I have to consider some addon devices being looked over too.

For static problems I haven't seen any since I had a Creative Audigy 2 ZS Gamer quit on an older build some time back. I was hearing more and more and then one day nothing at all. That was the card then.

I had some fun with Creative's support site when first putting the current build together with an Xtreme Gamer model. The installer automatically went for Vista drivers while installing sound on XP! The removal and then MS update site did the same.

When selecting XP as the version the July 2007 update turned out to be the web updater3 for Vista with no updater2 seen after the Dec. 2006 XP update. Odd way to run a support site!
