Unhappy Help i've lost my registry keys ????

Hope someone can help me. My computer was playing me up a little so i thought i would run a program to clean up my pc and i ran one called "free windows registry cleaner" and after running this program i have lost a lot of stuff and all the short cuts on my desk top end in .lnk and i don't know what they should be called to be able to run them again and also when i do click on anything to load it up it then asks me with what program do i want to open with and also i seem to lost all my photos in my picture folder as all it has in there now is a load of information telling me the parameters of the folders (i think that what it is). i can't do a system restore either as it seems to have lost all my previous store points as well. i hope somebody can help. Thanks Scarsam0 my system is Windows ME

can you run a system restore?

EDIT: oh, nvm, should have read the whole thing. I would suggest a virus scan and posting a HijackThis! log in the security section. Just to check if its a virus.

Hello!
CCleaner may be dangerous tool if you don't know what to do with it.
It's mostly used as a tool that helper recommends to his 'victim', and it is recommended very rarely to clean the registry as it's not completely accurate and may do some damage, as done now.
However, for such cases, there is a question before you clean your registry, that prompts you to backup your registry.
Please, have you backed up your registry? Be aware that is the only way other than reinstalling your Windows.

No problem, next time ask somewhere is that the right decision to do.
Also, you may not missed it; some versions of CCleaner don't ask you wheather to back up or not, it's in your options and itt depends on default options of the version.
Good luck in reinstalling.

Free Windows Registry Cleaner and CCleaner are two separate things. CCleaner NEVER causes that kind of damage. God. I use it every day, several times a day. People need to learn to read.

Indeed, but it's not true it never does it.There is a warning out there, also, before I click Fix issues I first check the 'issues'. Really Mr Kenin, it can doo damage as it did right now.

He didn't use CCleaner though, hence the source of my frustration. He used a program called "Free Windows Registry Cleaner". Two different programs.

Oh yes, lol. I really don't know what to say on that, I just saw that cleaner and I was confused. Deep apologies.
Also, I have never used that program and so I don't know for any back ups that are eventually available...which leaves us the only option, reinstalling.
Again, sorry Sir Kenin!
