Default Girlfriend

I must be going crazy or somthing to post about this on a computer forum, but its 1AM friday night, and my girlfriend is talking to me about her life problems...

She's basically told me she started smoking pot again, and that she wants to stop it, but she just can't, and she dosen't know who to go to or what to do.

I'm not a drug person, at all, It's just not my thing. Never tried any, never will. I honestly don't know much about what shes doing either. Is pot really that harmful? What are the long term effects of it?

I'm sure someone here has done it before, whats it like quitting? Is it always tempting to go back after?

I'm just trying to understand..

I knew this about her before, but I kind of overlooked it. I've been friends with her for a long time, so I've heard all about it before. She told me that she had stopped (which she did), but because of all kinds of stress in her life ext.. she started again.

I love this girl, but I don't think I can help her, I know nothing about this stuff. What do you guys think I should tell her?

BTW if this breaks any forum rules or anything, let me know..

Any input is appreciated.

the long term side effects of pot are possible weight gain from all the twinkies she is going to eat. shes also going to be very mellow for a while. other than that, nothing worth mentioning. pot is harmless unless it starts to take over your life. her dependency is entirely mental, ie she enjoys it and chooses to continue doing it, or she has a habit forming type of personality. pot is not physically addictive. it doesnt kill braincells. doesnt cause mental retardation. all the bullshit you were told in grade school is bullshit. IMO its less harmful than alcohol, just based on my personal experiences and observations of those that were alcoholics vs those that were potheads. if u start to notice personality changes, confront her about it. other than that i say leave it alone. let her know u dont like that she smokes, and she will make her own decisions.

Well, it's more that she told me she wants to quit. She dosen't want it to be part of her life, but she says that she just dosen't know how to do that.

She says shes constantly stressed out and she uses it to forget about her problems.

She says that she dosen't want to do that anymore, but she just can't find it in her.

I just don't know how to help her with that.

She knows that I don't like that she smokes, but she told me that she wanted to stop a long time before I told her that I didn't like it.

So shes already made her decision..

if she wants to quit and says she cant, that is 100% a cop out. she needs to have a little personal accountability, or at least come up with a better excuse than "i just cant". ive had friends that smoked every day for years suddenly decide they didnt want to smoke anymore, and thats all there was to it. they just stopped. it isnt heroin FFS. the i just cant excuse is bull. she just doesnt want to quit yet

well fine something that she likes to do and exploit it. like i remember slamming my locker in middle school relieved so much stress. find something she likes and tell her to do it. like now if i am really stressed, i stop and i go play a video game for 10 min. it completely gets you mind off everything and you forget about your problems. Of course there are two problems. one she is a girl and most dont like video games (most) so you have to find something else. and two a lot of people i hear dont really know when they are stressed and know to stop when they are so... just my .02 cents

edit: this reminds me of this http://www.illwillpress.com/smok.html WARNING: Strong language my self nor CF will be responsible... nore foamy. recommended for mature audiences... bla bla bla

Thanks for the help, like I said, no idea at all about any of this stuff. When I hear her talk about it, it seems like she really means it. I guess I'll see what happens..

Anyone else have input?

I don't think that there are any long term affects. BUT I know it can affect work and money problems. I.E. I have been working with my dad for years. All his employees do drugs, mostly weed. There are continentally not showing up from work because they are still fried when they get up. Also 3 days after pay day they are saying that there out of money and ask for an advance. LOL average employment time for a guy in my dads company, 4 days.

And saying you are doing pot to relieve stress it shitty excuse. I don't want to sound like I am bitching but dam. Since I have been seven I have had a condition in my spine and hips witch has resulted in my having to do home school, losing friends, having to quit hockey, going to the hospital every week, people not understanding why you don't have to do stuff thinking your better off and treating you like shit. Since I can remember all I remember is sitting out on the sidelines watching your buds play well you cant do anything about it. If you don't think thats stressful.

LOL there I let meself go sorry. HAHAHA

lol @ those who say there is no long term affect. if there are no long term effects of pot then there are no long term effects of cigarettes.

the difference between the two is that cigarettes have more chemicals in them, yes, but hardly any of those make a difference, the huge thing is that both raise your blood pressure (pot 4x more than cigarettes) and built up tar in your lungs and trachea. the funny part is that pot is actually WORSE for you because of the method it is smoked: cigarettes, although usually smoked more often, are casually dragged from and breathed out, whereas with pot, you breathe it in and hold for as long as you can so as to absorb more THC from the smoke. this means your lungs are exposed to the smoke for much longer (and lungs are not designed to withstand smoke, that's why you cough when you first start smoking... it's a natural reaction to get the harmful substance out of your body.) and to those who say there is no long term effects, i'll show you my mom. she has never smoked a cigarette in her life but has immense breathing problems and cognition from smoking pot as a hippie (yes pot, over time, can slow cognition, although it's not extremely common.)
