Is that some new armagedon? End of the world? What's the point? Should I really buy the DVD?

I don't think I will go to see it in the cinema, not because I'm a cynical bastard but because I take issue with paying £7.50 to have some moron pummel the back of your head with popcorn whilst trying to enjoy yourself. Sorry to rant like that...anyway...my sister has seen it and, at the risk of overselling it, touted it as 'the single best thing ever put to film'. I will, therefore, undoubtedly be buying the dvd

I dunno, I might pay the 7.50 rather than the 10 quid for the dvd that I'll only watch once anyway...
The handheld thing is cool, but an entire film? The Blairwitch project scared the shit out of me when I first saw it - I had no idea what I was watching. And it gave me a bit of a headache, this might do the same, so perhaps motion sickness pills beforehand would be a good call...

Ok it wasn't THAT great. I enjoyed it but I wouldn't see it again. The acting almost sucked but the special effects were quite good.

I've tried not to read most of this thread because of spoilers but, is it worth seeing in the theater with friends?

i can't believe so many people said they would wait for it to come out on dvd.
cloverfield was as good as you can possibly imagine for a movie of it's type. all that means is that movies like this are typically cheesy in that they are about the end of the world or monsters, but aside from that, it was an excellently well-done movie. check out what some of the harshest movie critics had to say about it: http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809873032/critic definitely worth seeing in the theater, if for nothing else the visuals. i watched it hungover and sick to my stomach before sitting down. the movie didn't bother me as far as giving me a headache or stomachache. you get used to it pretty quick and it's not bad enough to where you can't tell what's going on or anything like that.
