Default Help me find the perfect lappy

So im in the market for a new laptop computer since I will be selling my current one for $500 to a friend. Here are my basic needs and what im looking for:

Price: Under $1000
Uses: Photo and video editing mainly. Basic office and internet usage.
Storage: 80 gig HDD would be sufficient. Im gonna be using this mainly for doing things on the run then dumping them on my desktop.
Other: Looking for ultra portable. I dont want a big screen really, just something that will be light and easy to move from place to place. A tablet would be nice, but they dont seem to fit into my price range.

Question

First of all - Mac or Windows.

Macs are a more editting computer but are about $2000 or so.

Windows not so much editting you would have to buy software etc. If you do go windows, XP or vista. Which one and what series??? - XP - Pro, Home, Media. Vista - Ultimate, Standard etc.

Windows because i have all the software already to use for it, not to mention i am perfectly happy editing on windows. Probably going with Vista since that is what is on my desktop right now anyway.

I would suggest a Macbook but you may not want to learn the OS... You can get the basic Macbook for $1099... There is a student discount that pulls it down to $999....

As for the laptop, look into HP laptops.
