Took the words right outta my mouth. Couldn't have said it better. E8400 performs better in gaming, the Q6600 is better in multitasking.

I would go Quad cause I personally do a lot of photoshoping and video editing. Plus, if you have a good graphics card, I don't think the perform is going to differ that much.

Don't get either...both dual cores and quad cores are overrated.
Go "old-school" and get a single core processor...the slowest one you can find, just to be a little rebel. Any average Joe with a little extra $$$ can say "Look at my Quad Core at 4.2GHz!!!" but not very many can say "Oh yeah!!!?? I have a single core at 10MHz" Anyways, just give it some thought, you know? I mean...all of the decisions about how "Dual cores do better in gaming, but quads are better for multi-tasking"...with a single core, you don't have to worry about that...because they're not good at anything. ^ Oh I should mention I'm kidding, and don't mind single core CPUs at all.
