Exclamation Help Me tweak the system i'm buying!

i'm building another gaming computer... but I built my last one like 5 years ago so some technology has changed and I just wanted to see what people think, It's going to be mostly for gaming, so I'd like it to run all the top games at max settings, and also leave room for future upgrades... and the cheaper the better, even though I know i'm looking to spend $1500-$2000 (trying desperately to keep it under $1750)

heres what I got so far, please give my some suggestions on if any of this stuff sucks or if I should change it.

EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX Intel MoBo - $260
MSI Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS 640MB 575mhz OC PCIE 2.0 (2 of them SLI) $580
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 $275
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) $65
WD Caviar SE16 WD7500AAKS 750GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s $155
ASUS 20x DVD-RW lightscribe SATA $40
Rosewill r5604 case $40
BenQ G2400W 24" LCD Monitor 2ms $389
Rosewill RP600V2-S-SL 600W SLI Ready-ATX12V V2.01 Power Supply $70

I want to know if i'm making a good choice with the quad-core cpu, are they going to become the norm?

and the hard drive, would it be a good idea to install a 150GB or so 10,000RPM as my primary and use a 500GB 7500RPM for storage, or would I even notice a difference?

and the monitor.... I need help finding a good one that can display games well, do I need to spend that much money here? (looking for 22-24")

and my last question, are these factory overclocked Vid cards ok? it got high reviews on newegg, but i'm concerned about running 2 of those hot muthas right next to each other in SLI, is that too hot with stock cooling options (or maybe just adding upgraded fans and thermal compound)

Thank you, and I hope someone is bored enough to help me out

Get 8800GTS 512MB instead of 8800GTS 640MB

The 512MB version performs better because it is based on the new G92 core

Dual core is better for gaming. For the kind of money you're paying for that Q6600, get an E8400 (the new dual core 45nm) for about 195 (dealiverable.com or something like that, don't remember), and then get an aftermarket cooler (get the rosewill) and some arctic thermal compound. With a decent case and some fans you'll be able to OC that E8400 to 4.0 pretty easily, and you'll have a good gaming CPU.

I second getting the G92 core video card as well. And from what I hear, SLI isn't worth the extra money at the moment. What I did was buy one 8800GT 512 (G92 core), and I have a pricewatch on newegg.com for when that video card comes down to $100. At that point I'll probably do SLI, but until then one card will play the new games pretty damn well.
