Default CPU Blues

well lads it's been a long haul what with my crappy part time job but im now at the position where id like to get my cpu for the build im putting together, and was wondering what all your thoughts were on which proc i should get. My mobo's a socket 775 and it basically comes down to whether i want to go for the Q6600 or the E8400.

I realize there was a poll on which was better but what I'm really wondering is do you think it would be better to get the quad core and hope they start writing games that are designed for the new multi-core processors or should I stick with the dual core and have to face the fact that I may have to upgrade it in the future to accomodate new games.

Thanks in advance for the wickid replies from all you overclock fiends and computer geeks i hope to one day join your ranks

If it were me, I'd save the money and get the 8400, by the time mainstream games are making use of all 4 cores you'll likely have moved on to a newer machine anyways..
Does your mobo support the 8400?

Socket-type does not automatically equal compatibility. the E8400 is based on 45nm technology. Even though both it and your MoBo are Socket 775, the MoBo will need to support CPU's based on 45nm.

Post your MoBo model and we can check it for you.
