Default Sound problem halflife2

I'm having sound problems playing hlife2. I get distorted sound when characters talk and sound effects like the shooting and enviroment. This is the only game that I have this problem with. Can anyone think what the problem is. I have a Soundblaster 24bit soundcard. And it does'nt matter what sound setting I have the game in.

thank you

Some sound card don't work with half-life 2. You might have to buy a new sound card or perhaps just not play Half-Life 2
