Default The great forum challenge!

Right people, I fancy laying down a bit of a challenge to you all....

Plenty of people posting in the off topic section, which is by no means a bad things, its part of the heart of the boards and keeps the community spirit ticking over which can only be a good thing. But as we have seen from APJ's thread Stop threads with 0 responses dying there are some threads getting little attention.

So in light of that, I challenge you to make every 4th post one in a thread outside the general chat section!

Why not see if you can help out with one of the 0 post threads, or perhaps you can help out in another thread somewhere else? Lets not start posting things like "i agree" or just repeating words of other people, make that post count!

I'm going to give this one a try too as I know I don't post anywhere near that amount in the main body of the forum so i'll have to see if I can achieve it too...

so are you willing to take up the challenge? can you make every 4th post count?

good luck

I wonder if it would be possible....

A PUBLICLY viewable percantage of where someone posts?

I dont keep track of where I post, I only click "New Posts" at the top, and reply to those...

How about a "posts with 0 replies" link in the quicklinks?

You can do something similar, although it takes more time. You can go to the leaderboard and see how many posts a given member made so far, then go to the advanced search tab and look for all the posts made by a given member under a given section.

For instance, you Trizoy have made 4,610 posts. You replied to 326 off topic threads. Although if someone makes multiple posts in the same thread, I don't believe thats counted as part of that 326.

I think this is a great idea. I never understood why someone would join a Forum just to Post in the off-topic or anything-goes section. Aside from being a member here, I'm also active on UbuntuForums.com, and two car Forums. Active Posts are key to keeping the Forums alive; if someone looking for a problem finds the majority of Posts in the 'whatever' area, they're likely to move to another Forum for help.

Or, what about a tag somewhere at the top of the Main Page that will automatically list for Posts with zero replies. I know it's under the advanced search, but something right there in everyone's face might be beneficial as well.

((And I like 7 of 9 better, for the record))

Also, on a side note, I'd like to see Moderators Post more answers/advice in the general topics, too. I understand that Moderators do just that -moderate- but honestly, I don't see a lot of answers given on the grand scale. There are some exceptions (Cee and Cromwell come to mind instantly, but there are others) and they always Post, but for the whole...just an idea. Not a flame - don't hate me!

This is by far one of the best computer-help sites I've stumbled across and think this Thread is a great way to keep it as such.

Edit: Actually, I just tried the 'search for zero replies' under Advanced Search and you still need to put in some info on what you're looking on, else it defaults to nothing.

For myself I certainly agree and as i'm taking up this challenge myself I will have to be more active in the main body of the forum

works fine for me, simply click advanced serach and change to box to "at most" and hit search and it brings up all threads with 0 replies

Well, I'll give it a try. Mind you, my knowledge on computers and whatnot is rather... very, very thin.
