Default New Printer what to do ? avoiding problems.

My HP 1510 All In One's scanner just died and I'm needing to buy a new printer/scanner of another brand, probably a Canon this time. I was wondering how this will effect my HP Image Zone 4.7 When I scan items I normally I go into the HPIZ and press "From Scanner" will this still be the case when I use a Canon product ? or if the Canon has it's own system do I still keep the HPIZ on my computer ? I noticed in the "Add or remove programs" the HP Image Zone 4.7 uses 269.00 MB and under that the HP Extended Capabilities also uses 269.00 MB. I'm not sure if that's alot so I'm wondering if those programs should be removed if the Canon system won't be using them ? what happens to all the scans ?

Im guessing that the HP image zone software is probably exclusive for certain HP model scanners (I could be wrong though) however if you get a cannon/printer scanner im 99% sure they will include some scanning software with it.
