Default ICS and file sharing problems!

This is my setup:

My internet comes to my house's wireless ADSL modem, My vista laptop gets it wirelessly. The vista laptops LAN NIC is connected to a hub with two xp laptops also connected.

I know the internet works on the vista laptop as this is how i'm posting this and i know the LAN is working as i'm using LAN software with no problems.

I can't get the internet on either of my XP laptops nor share any files...?!

any help would be great.
cheers!

Have you given the other xp machines ip addresses? or left them as dhcp? Chances are your going to have to set them static ips.

I'm used to using gateways rather than switches so yes i have left them as DHCP. As i've said the LAN network works fine i've been using Maxivista across them. but neither computer will see the other. i'll set some static IP's n see what happens.

Yeh if i was you id check that both the machines have been given ips. do an ipconfig in command and check that they've got addresses on the same subnet.

Ok so let me see. So you've enabled your wireless connection for internet connection sharing? has ICS then been allowed in windows firewall? Or are you using another firewall?

What have you set as your gateway for the 2 machines you've given statics to? Can you ping the router from the 2 machines?

Wireless internet connecion is enabled for internet connection sharing. As far as i know windows firewall on vista only works on 'public' networks, i've set mine to private. but i'v also had a look and can't find ICS on the list of exceptions so i've just left it. There is no gateway, i'm using a switch.

Yes but they should still have a gateway set.

Do ipconfig /all in a command prompt on both machines and post the results here.

You can't set two simultaneous gateways, seing as i've got one set for the internet connection i can't have another set for the LAN network.

I can't get you the IP config directly as i'm not using those computers at the moment but i can tell you it as i remember. Plus i've only got one XP laptop on the network now the otherone is having it's hardware upgraded.

Vista:

WLAN
ip address: 192.168.1.65 (DHCP)
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.1.254

LAN
ip address: 169.254.9.118 (static)
subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
default gateway: none

XP:

LAN
ip address: 169.254.9.119 (static)
subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
default gateway: none

Like i've said both networks work fine! just not ICS and file sharing.
