Default Help - USB Drivers Kaput

Hey
This evening I went to start up my computer to use my new monitors, and it all started up fine - but my USB mouse doesn't work and I've tried numerous other ones from around my house. The usual message at the bottom left of the screen pops up when you plug it in, but it is quickly followed by 'USB device not recognised'.
It's really annoying and I can't use my computer properly!
Please help me...
