Default noob firmware question

hey all,
I wanted to know if I update my LG writer drive with another LG writer firmware will it ruin my drive or will I be able to change the firware later to the right firmware?

basicly what I want to try is update my LG GSA drive with a firmware of LG GDR drive and see if then the drive will be able to read Nintendo wii and GC games, if not then I will change it back to a GSA firmware.

what do you think?

if i were you i woulnd't update, thats something i stay away from, updating firmware as it often result in a breakdown and screws up your device.
i once attempted that on an mp3 player and that didn't go to well....
