Default Weird problem with XP service pack 2, no compatibility tab?

you know when you sideclick exes/shortcuts you can see the compatibility option? i just noticed recently(because i just decided recently to install and play an old game)that for some reason there is no compatibility tab :S. I asked alot of people and googled it, but nothing and no one has any idea why.

The only thing i could think of is some weird virus that might of done this but i have doubts.

Anyway i was hoping someone might know something about what could be causing this or how to fix it or whatever info you got

Thanks!

That's quite correct. The MS page for that is seen at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292533

Vista also sees this as well. Once you right click on the desktop shortcut or the executable itself for any game or program you choose properties then the compatibility tab like seen in the image here followed by clicking the apply button.

If the game is an old dos/95/98 game you are trying to run and doesn't install on Windows itself there wouldn't be. Yet I run some older 98-ME/XP compaticble games like SoF II seen there in Vista and see that option while not necessary. Why? Registry values plus an installation record made by Windows.

For any game too old and if dos for sure you would need to run a utility like DOSBox for dos games and apps or create a virtual drive by another means. One old 8bit dos game has been posted here enough times where DOSBox was used even in Vista for one.
