I'm an atheist.

I find it hard to believe there can be any power controlling the universe. I believe in the scientific creation of the universe.

I still go to church with my family though just to make my parents happy and so they aren't yelling at me about getting up on sundays and whatnot.

i havnt heard about that but, like when i go to church, like gravity is at 9.8 or sumthin like that, if it wasnt at that we wouldnt be able to move, and like in my book it said like something about the moon, and it was scientificly proven that it did happen, i dont remember the whole story but thats what i heard when i went to church, but all the other religouse views make sense to me like theres a good chance that it is true as well.

i think at this point in time there is enough scientific evidence (factual) to prove that the bible and other religious scriptures (not factual) are not true

Agnostic. Our current Pantheon is false, it's been passed down for thousands of years, developing discrepancies and nuances. There is no Jesus or almighty being.. as we know them. Hell screw science, I can think, understand, feel a greater number of emotions than there are stars. (not really, but it sounds good). Why? Screw nature, if she in her benevolent wisdom, deciding to grant us sentience, Why? Makes no sense. Screw evolution, it's faith based as it is, and as religion, created solely to comfort, solely to give meaning. All our understanding of the known universe is supposedly derived from, not departing from, basic universal laws. But how do we know them, let alone understand them? We live on one planet, in sea full of them. We are biased, and in a thousand years, everything we know will be proven false once again. Nothing changes, ignorence is our only constant, static truth.

:ahem: I'm just babbling. Tomorrow I'll feel different, I think in the moment.

This is kind of off topic, but in science, you know, we all learn about Darwin's theory of evolution and how we supposedly all evolved from one common ancestor. We also learned that in order for something to be living, it must have all of the 'life processes' or "metabolism. Well the one question that I have is..how was that first prokaryotic cell formed? Does it just so happen that somehow all these different cell structures (mitochondria, ER, etc.) came together and began to be alive? I find it hard to grasp that all at one moment cells started turning food into energy (or produced their own food), started reproducing, , starting moving, and started responding. And based upon modern biology, with out each of those, a cell cannot live Thats the thing that makes me not believe in evolution.

(I guess this kind of relates to religion with the whole creation vs evolution thing)

im sure you believe this then:

light takes a certain amount of time, even to move an infinitely small space. likewise, movement takes time, no matter how far the movement is. because we currently understand distances as infinitely divisible, even the slightest movement you make should take an infinite amount of time. because of all this, theoretically life is impossible as a whole and our current knowledge of ourselves is untrue...

lol idk what to believe there.

Sometimes scientists make things alot harder than they need to. All they've gotta do is put a big spring on the ground where they think it's gonna land, or send a mission to the moon to erect a sign that says "Welcome to Earth".

Haven't heard of that one. I'm sure there's an equally fitting rebuttal, like there is to my assessment. Arguments and counter arguments, that's the greatest impact alot of all this philosophical crap will have on many people. But since I'm on a roll =]

Indifferent to our worlds suffering we strive to understand her and her brothers and sisters better. The forces that act upon us all are understood, debated, changed on whim, and tallied. Yet I can't help but believe that in gaining this knowledge, we have lost an older piece; our finite understanding cannot be stretched to infinity. humanity cannot withstand the whole knowledge of the universe, we will lose ourselfs and we will lose our brothers. The positive aspects of such knowledge will be negated by our own misuse of that same knowledge. We will gain nothing, but just possibly.. lose everything.

Sounds quite bleak and apocalyptic, lol. But as they say, Look to the past, to see the future.

hermeslyre you are the single most depressing person i have ever had the pleasure of conversing with, and thats saying something in this case!

but hey while we stare obliquely into nothingness im still gonna strive to make the nothingness resemble something like a life. hows that?

Thank you, I get that all the time.

Hey, it's your funeral. While you're at it, Imagine me up a beer.
