Default Need Info on Dell XPS 420

I am thinking of buying a new computer because I have maxed out my good ol' Dell Dimension 2400 to its best capabilities lol.

I am an average gamer, world of warcraft and a few others. I would like a computer that I will not have to upgrade parts to for a couple of years yet it still be a higher end computer for gaming and what not.

I have been eyeing this computer recently and want to know how everyone would rate this comp and if its worth the money for updating from my 2400.

The money vs. pre-built performance system seems to be average for today's market. The only thing you may consider is a C2D rather than a Quad-core, but that's all a matter of preference. Overall, it looks like a decent system.

The Graphic card seems a bit low. May be a Gateway?

Yeah I thought about the gateway but I am kinda loyal to Dell after not having any problems with my comp for the last 5 years.

I don't want to buy a system and be disappointed with after paying $1000+. I'm trying to stick to the $1000 mark anyway.

What is the difference between Core 2 Duo and Quad Core?

The video card on the dell isn't as great as the gateway but it still should be good right? I mean right now I have a geforce fx 5200 pci. It has to be better than that by about 1000x lol, right?

OMG! Shhhhhhhh! <whispers> Don't let anyone hear you say that! Lots of haters around here. I'm not one of them, though

As of right now, Dual Cores handle a lot of things better than Quad Cores. Reason being: a lot of applications now are being made to utilize two cores, but not so many to utilize four. Now granted, a Quad-core can handle more single-threaded applications at once, but really, a well-made C2D should suffice (and continue to suffice) for a while to come. Also, you mentioned gaming, and there don't seem to be many out there right now that take advantage of more than two cores, anyway. When the time comes, you'll be able to swap out your CPU for a Quad-core with little problems, so I'd save my money and stick with the C2D, but that's just me - your mileage may vary.
