Hi guys, My new 400GB Replacement drive should be here sometime on monday.
I'm looking to find out what the best storage setup would. I'll be running XP Profesional x64 & Vista Ultimate x64 SP1. Drive setup will be as follows/. 400GB Sata2 320GB Sata2 160GB USB2 External Drives will be running off an Onboard Sata Controller. Right now I have Vista & XP on 2 partitions on my 320GB drive, using the External as installer storage. Heres what Im thinking: 160GB External - Installers / Large Files 400GB - Music / Games 320GB - XP + Vista + Applications / Movies (Making a monthly Backup Image, So if the OS fails I still have working Gamepaths when I go to reinstall. Is it possible to install games on a drive with no OS, to say run under vista when the shortcuts + installations are based on another drive? Also would it be worth swapping the 320 + 400 Drives around with what's going where. I have around 100GB Movies 5GB Applications 6GB Music 150GB Games 200GB Installers What would you do?, need any more info just post, Can't be sure that I've added everything Thanks Also is there any other way I could go about this to get any better performance? __________________________________________________ ________ Also is there any way I could RAID these drives, letting me get 2x Read/write performance but not loosing out on 80GB. I've heard about some partitions trick...its just to get full access of my 720GB... I would need to trick the partitioning tool into thinking I have a 720GB disk.....letting me cut it up into Equal sizes that in total come to 720 ( Say 6 x 120) an running 6 Stripes? In RAID 5. Any idea's? ....I've never used RAID before & have only got this info from others. TIA
