Default Mouse question

I was bored moving my mouse in circles and I realized if I hover it slightly close to the surface the cursor still moves.

Hows that possible if it's not touching against the surface?

I got the Razer Diamondback btw.

Is it optical? If so, it's common. Sometimes mine will move when it's sitting still. It's something to to with the laser that reads the hard surface. If you nudge it or pick it up and put it down, it will stop.

the laser on the bottom is probably powerful enough to allow the sensors to still understand where the mouse is moving when its half a centimeter above the surface. Any more and the laser probably disperses too much. You won't find it happening with a ball mouse.

You won't find much happening with a ball mouse, these days.

tell me about it. Finally bought myself an optical a few months back and you can definitely notice the difference, even if it was a cheap logitech.

No nothing like that.

If I put it above the surface and move it around the cursor on the screen moves along with me.

I don't have to use a surface to make it move is what im saying.

Hm Im assuming it's because it's a good gaming mouse so the laser is powerful enough.
