Putting XP on a Windows Vista Laptop

Hello,
I have a HP Pavillion dv6000 that came pre-loaded with Windows Vista. I want to put Windows XP on it now, but I still want to have the option of going back to Windows Vista.

Windows Vista is on the HP Recovery Partition, and I have the recovery dvd's, so if I put windows xp on the drive that windows vista is on right now, will I be able to just use the recovery partition/recovery dvd to put windows vista back on if i decide to?

Also, if i delete the hp recovery partition, will i still be able to recover with the hp recovery dvd?

You can use the DVD, yes.

IF hp is anything like sony then you won't be able to recover vista to replace your xp. it doesn't hurt to try though. this is true as of last year but they may have changed recently.

i'd suggest dual booting.

and if hp is anything like sony you'll be given an option to make your own recovery partitions. so lets see.... 2 OS and 2 recovery partitions.

I would suggest Dual-Booting also. The only problem I think you will have is probably finding the drivers for your computer as it came pre-installed with Vista.

If I go on the HP driver site, it has all of the drivers for windows xp for my computer. So does that mean I should be good?

If the drivers are available for XP you'll be good. I don't know the configuration of your HD but do you have a second partition available for XP? If you have a second partition keep C: for Vista and choose the other one for XP.

If you ever want to change the way the DualBoot is presenting itself i suggest that you use VistaBoot Pro which is free: http://www.vistabootpro.org/

You can rename the OS, change the default (Vista for XP or vice versa) and it's a great tool to have.
