I have 2GB of OCZ Elite DDR2 800, great I love waht they look like, and even saying "I have Gaming ram", seems good. But does it actually do anything differently, or improve anything?
The reason I ask: Over tis last weekend, my friends and I tried his 1GB of DDR2 667 Value Ram on 3DMark05, and then with my 2GB DDR2 800 Gaming Ram. So double the amount, faster speed and it's "Gaming Ram" with pretty heatsinks, and better whatever gaming ram has better, and it got a lower score... How much sense does this make? Please someone explain what the advantage of Gaming Ram is.

Gaming memory by title is no more then performance memory seeing faster timings then value memory. The term "gaming" as a label is more of a marketing strategy to sell a performance type with a different label on it.
Performance memory itself has a wider application then for gaming alone. It's a means of seeing an increase in system performance along with other things like a faster cpu, better graphics card, etc. there. |

first of all wow it got a lower score .. that sounds real bad.. it shouldn't get a lower score to general ddr2 667mhz ... are u sure ur running ur ram at full speed? so say like a 1:1 ratio with ur fsb .. so like 400mhz(so dubble data rate(ddr) would be 800)
2nd .. performance ram(or gaming ram) is usually better quality and with heatsinks because it was inteneded to be overclocked(pushed beyond its factory limits) so like say 1066mhz which should be roughly entry level DDR3 ram .. speed .. cause wen u overclock it, usually it needs more power then heats up 3rd like PC eye said latancy's usually lower as well think of it as delay .. thats my 2c's
