Question Dual Channel Memory Problem

Hello all. Well, I just purchased a GIGABYTE GA-MA770-DS3. I installed an AMD64 X2 6000 processor and installed two 4GB DDR 800 memory sticks. The problem i am having is DDR slots 1 and 2 are yellow, DDR slots 3 and 4 are red. Now everything I have read says you normally keep your memory sticks in the same color slots. When i try to put the memory in slots 1 and 2, the computer won't boot up. When i put the memory in slots 1 and 3, it shows single channel 64 bit during the boot up screen. When i go into the system hardware profile, it shows 3.25GB of memory. Is this something I need to tweak in the bios in order to enable the dual channel memory and for it to regognize the full 4GB or memory? Please help. Thanks.

Think the problem is your OS, is your OS 32bit?

Thats your problem mate, in order to use the full capacity of your RAM you will need a x64 OS.

4 GIG is often too much for a system to recognise. This may be all you're going to get out of that RAM. You need to check out the specifications of the DDR slots as well. They will only work with 2 DDR 800 modules in certain setups.

I thought the the 32bit bit system recognized up to 4GB of RAM? Why does the boot up screen show only single channel? On my old computer with the same widows version installed, it showed dual channel 128 bit when i was running 2 GB of memory.

It does, but 4GB includes all other memory in your system, the video card is usually the biggest culprit.

Ah, ok, got it. Yeah, i'm running a 512mb card so that would make sense. What about getting it to read dual channel? Any tips on that one? Thanks again for the help. I'm still learning on most of this.

If they wont work in 1 & 2 instead of putting them in 1 & 3 put them in 3 & 4 to get dual channel. To get dual channel you have to put them in 1 & 2 or 3 & 4
