Angry Laptop is dead..

Today i tried to turn on my laptop but it booted to a black screen and beeped 3 times. Once long, and 2 short then turned off again.

Does anyone know what the beeps signify, what component is broken?

thanks a lot

The beeps can signify a lot of things, gonna need to know the make and model of the laptop to find out exactly what.

That, to me, sounds like a video card fault.

It's likely, although not certain. I know nothing about laptops though but going on my knowledge of desktops I would say that you should try another video card (if possible) and go from there.

No but replacing that one should be easy.

Not sure about that, I cant find the spec for his laptop but im pretty sure its gonna be an onboard graphics chip, in which case you've got no chance of replacing unless your an expert in soldering.

That is the typical video error beep... I can't ever recall hearing it from a laptop, though.

As others said, you could probably replace the GPU if you look around hard enough. Assuming your particular laptop has a dedicated/removable GPU of some sort, there might be a GPU you could get off ebay to swap out. However, you must be sure it's made to work specifically with your laptop.

Do you have any idea what your GPU was originally? Intel GMA? Radeon Mobility? Nvidia Geforce?
