Default Desktop problems.

It seems everytime I update ANYTHING on my computer, if their is internet involved, it will not work anymore after the update.

Eg. Firefox, MSN, Internet Explorer, Xfire, etc. etc.

Could it be a virus? or is my modem/router buggy? I've adjusted ALL the settings on my firewall on my computer, AND the modem/router firewall, and still, when an update is installed it blocks the internet from working.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

DEP probably! Data Execution Protection can be a real annoyance. When seeing a clean install of Windows the problem of IE, sound card, video card installers and updates met with that problem. Once disabled everything suddenly worked! You may be running into this as well.

PC_Eye, How would i Disable it?

Alien Ware, Meaning, nothing connects. Its like the Internet dies to only a certain part. I had to roll back my computer twice already so i could post this!

For example, MSN updated, and it wouldn't connect after the update anymore. So I did a System Restore, and MSN worked again. Then Windows updated, and I couldn't use IE, then I went to connect to xfire to play ET, and an update installed, and wouldn't let me connect. I can live with out xfire for the moment, so I didn't do another system restore. THEN Firefox updates, and it no longer connected. Finally a last system Restore, and This is where i'm at now. I disabled as much updating as I could, but would love some advice to try out.

Thanks again.

You must be running Vista there! When trying out a new beta tool IE 7 went out and nothing but the first restore saw results. But I had already planned to remove the last ide drive and put Vista on the first of two satas.

Surprise! The exact same annoyance of problems with software installers as well as IE was seen when installing Vista on the next drive as well. I had copied the primary off of the ide onto the sata in order to preserve the files and folders to see Windows.old the first time. problems! problems! problems!

Shrink the primary, create a second storage partition, and reformat the primary to see what? The same problems all over! hhhmmmm.... The dual boot of Vista on the second sata with XP only saw one problem with the mom implementation error with probably too new of ATI driver for XP. That I'll get to after. When Vista there also started seeing IE crap it was DEP time!
