Default GNU GRUB USB Keyboard not working....

I am dual-booting XP and Ubuntu using GNU GRUB .
I have a usb keyboard. When i first built my computer, i relized that a usb keyboard would not work during post so i went into BIOS and enabled using usb keyboards so that is not the problem. Whenever it runs GNU GRUB my keyboard will not let me move up and down (with the arrow keys )
This has not ben a problem before. I just booted it up one day and it would not work. So now each time i boot i have to plug my usb keyboard into a usb-ps2 converter to get it to work. I would just use that, but it (the ps2 converter ) does not work in windows (i have no idea why).

PLease Help,
Alec

p.s. GNU GRUB is a dual-boot program that runs after post
you can see my system specs, here
