Default encryption?

i recently moved all my files to a 60gb hard drive. i have about 40gigs of it, and i partitioned the other 20 for my wife
i'm just curious how i would go about making my part of it password protected or something

There are a lot of programs out there which you can use to password protect a certain partition although most of them mess up with the file system of the hard disk, that's why I don't like them. Sometime using such programs can be a disaster rather than a blessing.

The main problem with such programs starts when you forget the password, or have physical problems with your drive. You might want to try them first on a selected partition that contain no data.

Some programs go far and protect certain folders you choose by a password. Be very careful using these programs, as you are dealing with your data all the time.

Try searching Google or downalod.com, you will find a lot of them.

Another solution is to make your Partition an NTFS one and restrict access to it to a certain user (Which will be your user of course). By this way, when your wife logs into windows, she will have restriced access to this partition as long as you denied the permissions to her user account. You can deny all permissions, she can't create, modify or delete anything on this partition.

Try www.blackcode.com it has some nice encryption tools. I use them to password protect partitions, but not all of them work some of them contain viruses as they are user submitted and they do not have Beta testers so when you download them scan them with an Anti-Virus program to make sure they have no viruses on them

see, when i created the partitions, i used ntfs. it's the one i always hear is more reliable. i named my partitioned drive g.
now i know when you normally right-click on a folder, on the sharing tab it gives you the option to make this folder private.
unfortunatly, when it comes to drive g, or files on drive g for that matter, it shows me that option, but it's faded out and dosen't allow me to check it

i just need somethin to make sure noone messes with my files. what would i search for on google?

what files are you trying to protect exactly? Only your user account folders in the documents and settings folder can be made private

well, windows is on our 40gb hdd. which of course is drive c
i also have a 60gb hdd hooked up for extra storage...and it's the files on that drives partition that i want to protect
