Default Harddrive is Failing..

Ok so my hd is failing..so i decided its time to upgrade some parts in my pc..its extremely old (compaq presario 5000t) from 2000

the specs are
Duron-900 CPU
128MB of SDRAM, 64KB L2 cache
Windows xp,
40GB hard drive
Compaq NVidia GeForce2 MX graphics card with 32MB of SDRAM,

i added 256mb of ram and plan to add another 256 to total out to 512 keep in mind that i rarely play games and this pc is only used for internet, music and videos... im gonna put in some pieces i wanted to know if they were compatible to use with this pc

will this video card work on my pc?
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=E145-5202

can i use this power supply?
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...ADC-803831-RTS

how is this hd?
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...0&sku=THD-80JB

will my mb support this?
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=P511-1066

Also can you guys recommend me a cheap sound card? the intergrated sound on my pc is slowly dying..my budget is only 250...and so far with all these parts i've spent 200.77 dollars(this includes shipping)

Edit- found a soundcard, is it any good?

Is it stupid that im pouring all this money into such a old pc? if so what do u suggest i do? saving up is not an option since i only get 200 a month and cant go without a pc

In my opinion doing an overhaul on a computer like that just isn't worth it. A single component I would probably do. For $350 you can buy a low end Dell and you can build your own for $300 or possibly less. I would ask for an advance on your money or try to eek out a little more time on what you have if you can't scrape together the money yet.

Oh yeah, and $200 a month? I was happy if I got $5 a week from my parents when I was younger...

i asked for the advance..parents were not tryin to hear it lol..they hate that im on the pc for hours..so they def arent tryin to help in that department...i would save up for a pc but i use it everyday for hours and its bound to die anyday now..so doing an overhaul is pretty much my only choice

If you just wait two months or even three you'd have such a solid system, i meen if you only use your computer for internet, music and videos (if you're young you probably watch porn you can go w/out that) just save your money and have a good computer
