Default Deciding on a laptop....

hey everybody, im new here but I thought this would be a great place to ask about laptops. I am looking for one basically, my budget is around 1k to 1.5k, not really looking for anything insanely expensive. I have heard alot of good things about the sony vaio's and Hp's.. I am not looking for a thinkpad or just one of those laptops, but for an actual laptop where I can do stuff on of necessity... any recommendations???! i know not to go with dell, lol.. but i am just looking for recommendations!! help!

I have two HP's and I love them. The 17" screen over the 15.4" makes a big difference. If you're willing to spend $1,500 if you go on hp.com you can customize one real good. I am biased towards the HP though. Good luck....
