Default cant hear things behind me

Hi, I have a problem in every game when I am playing, I cant hear things behind me. So I went through all the sound options in control panel and couldn't find anything that helped, Updated the drivers and that didn't help either.

Then I thought it was just my sound card, which was just a normal 7.1 sound card so I replaced it with a Sound Blaster Audigy SE. Its not supposed to be a big upgrade just something to get my sound working right. That didn't fix it. Tried updating all the Drivers and messed with the options some more to see if that helped. I've also tried some other things like reformatting my PC but nothing seemed to work. So if you guys have any suggestions lay them on me. thank you!

My assumption is that he means when in game, if anything within the game occurs behind the central point of hearing (for example, when you play CS:S you hear sound all around you from where your character stands, this being the central point of hearing) he / she is not able to hear anything.

My only suggestion would be to make sure that the windows sound properties arent conflicting with any sound card manufacturer program properties you may have. I have had this issue before myself with my Windows properties and motherboard sound properties (my sound is built in) having an issue with one another. Excuse the poor suggestion but I'm not very savvy when it comes to sound issues.

Rove.

Stupid questions first; do you have 5.1/7.1 speakers? Are they plugged in correctly? Do the games you're playing support 5.1?

1. My problem happens in everygame I play such as Crysis, CS:S, Halflife 2, Also even happens in MMO's. If I am facing foward I cant seem to hear things behind me no matter where I am. So it causes me to get shot from behind without even hearing a sound.

2. I thought it was my speakers at first too, i was just using 2 speakers, so I switched to 5.1 speakers and have tried those on the two speaker option and 5.1 speaker option, and yes they are plugged in correctly.

3. Ive checked the manufactuar program and messed with the options to see if it helped, but it didnt. Could it have something to do with my motherboard slot?

so any sound 'behind' you doesn't come out the speakers, regardless of whether you're using 5.1 or stereo? That must be some setup issue with your card or something, or an option in the sound menus of the games you're playing? Did your sound card come with various programs it installed (shortcuts down in the bottom right)? Does it have one of those 'drag the virtual noise source around the room to hear it reflected through the speakers' programs? Does it work?

I'm defiantly sure everything is in the right slot/spot, ive also tried it with just two speakers and the same thing happened. I tried the speaker test you were talking about the sound card program. Its doing the same thing there too. It plays sound from the "Front" "Front left" "Front right", but not the "Back left" or the "Back right". Even if I am playing with the 2 speaker option on my 5.1 speakers or with my headphones the same thing is happening. Then I double checked the drivers and all were updated. I think i'm running out of options .
