I must be something really simple, unless the card is bust.
Have you plugged the cable you're using from the computer into an mp3 player or something to check it? In device manager are there any exclamation marks over the sound card/drivers? In control panel/sounds, under the playback tab, is the card selected? If none of that helps, uninstall the card and download the latest drivers from the Creative site, and install it using them. If it's still doing nothing, get your hands on another card from a friend/neighbour and try that, and then return the card if they work.

I dunno if this is true, it's just jumped into my head, but I'm sure I have a vague memory...
Have you tried turning the onboard sound back on in the BIOS, but then select the other card as the one to use in windows? I used to experience wierd problems like this back in the days of the pentium 1&2, it's the sortof thing I'd try, even though it makes no sense!

I mean simply switch the onboard card back on (there's no need to switch it off really) in BIOS, then in Windows, choose to use the new card. Maybe it'll do something, I dunno! It shouldn't do anything, but I've never found computers to be predictable, maybe the new card will jump into life!
You can swap between them in windows this way as well, and perhaps narrow down the problem.
