Default windows media player: help please

If I am watching a video using windows media player and want to slide the movie ahead I lose the sound. I can see the advanced picture but the sound disappears. The only way I can get the sound back is to slide the slider all the way back to the beginning. I would really like to be able to move ahead in the video because I am watching various training videos. Please help me to fix this problem or recommend another media player. Thank you. Frank

I might have spoke to soon. It works great for fast forward or rewind but "pause" doesn't work. Is there a way to fix this or is there any other programs I could try? Thanks again.
