laptop audio amplification

Hi. I just hooked up a new logitech z-5500 speaker system to my toshiba m35-s456 laptop that has sigmatel ac97 audio in it and it was not loud at all, even quiter than my friends 2.1 system that has less than half the wattage. Is there anything i can do to amplify the sound? thanks.

Turn up the volume on your laptop in every way possible.
That means:
Knob/button on the outside
windows volume controls.

Also make sure that it's not plugged into the Line-in plug make sure it's in the Line-out
(You may not be that stupid, but dumber things that happened

)
