There are no idiotic questions, yes PCI-E 2.0 is backwards compatible.

backwards compatible meaning works with pci express x 16 slot? doesn't have to be installed backwards just means it works with older slots right? alright i think i am going to finalize this thing i want to get the parts this week and put it together. its my first build from the ground up. i think i will stick with the original build also thanks for the adivce guys.

Kinda funny question... hehe, installed backwards!

You should get 4 gigs of RAM if you really want some great performance. then get the 64 bit

I thought windows vista 32 bit didn't reconginze 4 gigs of ram?

exactly, it doesn't... however u can still install 4gb, but I think Jesse suggests you do both, intall 4gb and Vista 64.

i see well for now i have gone with the 2 gb and vista 32 bit i heard 64 bit had problems. i may upgrade at a later time. even if the 32 bit doesn't recognize 4 gigs of ram will it still speed up the computer as a whole to have 4 gb or ram rather than just 2?
