Default need help with dvd burner

I have a Sony DRU-810A DVD burner that is giving me trouble. Originally it just quit working, could not get it to open by pushing the button. I have been using this drive to burn stuff onto dvd's and when it would get done burning, it would open. But if I tried to open it by pushing the button, it would not work.

So I took it out and put in it another machine and got it working. I put it back in my machine and now it will open but will not stay closed. I pretty sure I have the jumper in the correct spot. I put in the spot where the book told me to. Do you think just the jumper is in the wrong spot? I am going to take it back out and move the jumper to another spot.

if it works fine reading and burning disks on other computers it may be a driver issue on your computer.

have you tried putting other optical drives into the same cable that the bad drive uses? could be the cable or the ide control device.

cable select should take care of that, or positioning on a 80pin IDE cable.

I got it working. I had to move the jumper three different times before I got it in the right spot.

As your looking at the computer from the front it would be the farthest 2 pins on the right. The farthest 2 pins from the IDE connection.

I've never experienced problems like that because of a jumper, I really wouldn't have expected that to be the case. Interesting... Actually not that interesting, it'll be out my head in half an hour, but it held my attention briefly.
