4 gigs of 800 or 2 gigs of 1200?

Ordering up some ram for an EVGA 780i mobo. It supports ddr2 1200, but was wondering if it makes sense to go with 4 gigs of 800, or 2 gigs of 1200, or maybe some 1066? Basicaly my question is, performance wise is it better to go with more memory or faster speeds? Is there a trade off? I will be running Vista 64 premium and a Palit 8800GTS g92 1 gig for my graphics and a q6600 quadcore. Computer is being built for entertainment and HD applications.

my opinion is to go for 2 gigs 1200(i think they are enough). The maximum throughput of ddr800 becomes 64bits x 400MHz x 2 / 8bits/byte= 6400MB/s | for ddr1200 64*600*2/8= 9600MB/s. So this way you will have sufficient ram but at v j=hight speeds.

Patriot Viper 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

or...

Patriot Extreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1200 (PC2 9600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

Both are the same price which is $129

So it comes down to double the memory or slightly more speed?

Whats the experts opinion?

in this case i will defently go for 4gb pc2 8500. the throughput difference betwen ddram 1200 and 1066 is only 1072MB/s. and 2GB of ram are quite a lot. ddram1066 are fast enough.

You will notice a very minute difference or none at all between PC2 8500 (DDR2 1066) memory and PC2 6400 (DDR2 800) memory speeds. Go with PC2 6400 memory. It's lower in price.

Well, not really, right? Because one is 4GB and one is 2GB, so that makes it a little different by comparison.

I'm definitely no expert, but from what I've read, it seems by far better to have twice as much RAM than to have half as much with a slight increase in speed.

go for the 800...you get doubl;e the amount of ram.

i would prefer more ram then the actual memory speed
