what do you want a new computer for? you have a new laptop!

what is it for? playing games?

your dad's "old" computer would be dire playing games compared to your laptop.

Hate how the laptop dies fast. Would it be cheaper to upgrade the laptop or desktop or build my own comp? Eventualy would like a blu-ray reader/Burner to hook up to my hdtv to watch blu-rays. Used for sims not many other games maybe a couple but we use our xbox for that. If I kept the laptop how would I hook the laptop up to the tv?

what type of tv is it?

if its plasma or lcd then it should have a dvi or vga port. a standard monitor cable would do that easily.

Or you could use S-Video or RCA from your monitor. RCA to a adapter, get it to coxial. Same with S-Video. Take in mind, S-Video is a last resort. The picture is HORRIBLE!
