Unhappy laptop display

my laptops display is currently not worknig properly and untill i can afford to take it in to the shop to get it repaired is there any way i canput the display through my desktop moniter

Nearly every laptop has a VGA port on the back...

If you do plug in a VGA sometimes you have to switch the display to that one. On MY laptop (don't know about yours) there's a Function on one of the F keys which looks like a square in a square. It just flips the display between the outputs.

So THAT is what that button does. I looked at it for a bit then tried it out. To me it just looked like it turned off the screen, since I didnt have another monitor plugged in. Lol, thats a good thing to know
