I have a old Compaq desktop with window's ME. Half the stuff on the computer doesn't work because of vires, or ME itself. I have a window's 98 cd, but can't get Window's ME to uninstall. Don't even know if the desktop is worth saving. It's 9 years old.

ME = Mistake Edition. I know...
I would format and install 98 fresh, especially if it's infected. And old computers can sometimes come in surprisingly handy...

Why don't you boot from bootable cd drive and format it.....after formatting it you can easily reinstall win98.....but its not easy to install win98 you need to keep patience....

You can't simply uninstall an OS, you need to either format it or reinstall a new OS.
Does your copy of Windows 98 have a floppy boot disk? If it does you can run the FDISK utility and format the drive(s) that way, or just install Windows 98 over ME.

I think you'd use FORMAT rather then FDISK for formatting...FDISK is a partitioning tool rather than a formatter. Granted it will wipe your hard drive clean, you'll still have to format using "FORMAT" command if you want to use your newly created partitions...
In my opinion it's be better to format, then install. Go to BIOS and make sure CD come before HD in the boot sequence list.

I'm going to use my shotgun to reboot this POS. The window's 98 cd I have is a burned copy. Would it be worth the $100 to just put xp on it???
