Question using OS from my dell on new build?

I have a reinstallation cd for windows xp home edition sp2 and was wondering if I can use this for my new build instead of spending the 90-140 on a new one.

It the cd is not for reinstallation of programs or drivers, so this would only be for xp right? no idea really

Whether it's possible or not, it's not legal per the terms of the EULA.

HI,
Yep. That's about it. If the OS is taken out of service on one computer it can be reinstalled on another one. I assure you, Microsoft knows. MS even knows and questions the situation if you make certain hardware changes like a new mother board or processor. The OS has to be re-authorized. I have been through this several times. It has always worked but it makes me nervous.

The problem is that its probable a Dell OEM CD, its just meant for that computer and it cant be installed on another custom built computer. Only on the Dell that it came with.

The thing with OEM software is that it's tied to the computer it was sold with. It's cheaper, but at the cost of being non-transferable and support is the responsibility of the vendor.

So yeah, unfortunately the license can't be transferred to another computer (technically anyways).
