Hi everyone, noobie here.
![]() I am trying to build a gaming computer on a budget, I am trying to keep the total cost below $550.00.(not much I know) I already have the monitor, mouse and keyboard, sound system, and a friend has some ATX cases I can have so I think I can get the following and still stay in budget. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128081 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103228 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817339012 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220144 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136075 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151155 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16825164001 Is all of this stuff compatible? What else do I need?(if anything) Also which video card would be best for gaming? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130332 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130290 EDIT:Or would this card be better? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150277 And do I need a aftermarket CPU fan or will the one that comes with the CPU work?(I don't plan on doing any overclocking) If I do need a CPU fan are there any good ones in the $25-35 range? Sorry for all the question, I'm new at this. ![]() Thank you for any info. Michael. Last edited by MikeV; 03-17-2008 at 08:45 AM. |

Firstly, it would be better to have intel CPU than AMD right now. If you insist to go for AMD, your set-up is OK. Best to go for black edition with CPU fan.
However, E8200 with GA-P35-S3G/ GA-P31-S3G with perform better than your AMD set-up PSU: I think the ver2.01 is better?? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817339001 video card: 9600GT > 8800GS 8600GT not worth. $25 CPU fan: Arctic cooling freeze 7 pro/ COOLER MASTER Hyper TX2 |

8800GS is great video card, but try to get 9600GT if you can
Intel currently offers the best performance So change the motherboard and CPU Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128059 CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115029 Check the benchmarks http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...e_6.html#sect1 |

Thank for the info.
I guess I will go with the Intel CPU instead of the AMD(it is not that much more anyway) But I guess this brings up another question, is it worth it to get a Quad-Core over the Duo-Core? The E8200 is $200.00 and the Q6600 is $250.00($200.00 at Microcenter but there is not one in my state. )I know that right now not much software is made for Quad-Cores, but that will probably change within a year. Thanks. Michael. |

For gaming I would go with the dual-core right now for sure. Quad-core is better for multitasking (read: heavy multitasking), as has been said quite a few times. I have the E8400 and it's a great chip. You don't need an aftermarket cooler, especially if you aren't overclocking. Good luck. Welcome to the addictive (and costly) world of computer aficionados.

I'd personally recommend the Q6600 only $254.99 at newegg
Link : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115017 You wont see much of an advantage but it's more future proof at the moment .. i would have gotten it but they didn't have any in stock at my canadacomputers ![]()

E8400 - Slight multitasking, hardcore gaming. PS - E8400 beats Q6600 on any dual core supported game.
