Default new car cd player (Uk members)

Hello all,

does anyone here from the uk know where i can get the best deal on getting a new cd player for my dads car?

he currently has a blackpunkt radio/cassete player which is good but its time it came out and we put a cd player in as he wants to listen to cds.

we do not realy want to spend over £45,I know its not much but we dont need anything fancy.

i was thinking either of these?

Goodmans 4 x 20 watts RMS
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...ertainment.htm

OR

Panasonic 4 x 45 watts RMS.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...ertainment.htm

Im leaning towards the panasonic.

anyone else know deals like this elsewhere in the uk?

tks

This is a great cd player:

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/kenw...9423db685b544f

I was considering getting that next week but I think im gonna get this:

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/pion...9423db685b544f

Both are good but the pioneer ones puts out more power... Browse throught that site, very good site and prices.

Remember you need a fascia and ISO connecters for the cd player.. Some manufactures have different wire layouts!

you should try looking in halfords, they have massive selections...

also, the small car install places dotted around, not sure what there is by you, but there are 3 independant (not large chains) car audio places within 2 miles of my house...

you could also have a peek at maplins (shameless self promotion there, im sorry) they do about 4-5 different ones, probably a tiny bit over budget though...

if you find an amazing deal, let me know, i need one

Halfords mark their prices soo much. Not worth it.

Anything over 4x45 will be ok. the 4x20 will result in a poor audio quality.

Audio Direct are good. I have bought over 400quid worth of equipment. That Pioneear is amazing for the money.

Thats a rather large generalization there... the stated wattage/rms has nothing to do with quality, that number is of pure output power (i.e. volume), quality would be classified by the sampling rate for example... The only way the output power governs quality is if you try and turn it up too far without running into an amp. And of course ALL of that is subject to what speakers you have....

this is not true. the 4x45 advertised as RMS is also not true. the 45 watts in that listing is the maximum wattage output, the amount of power the internal amp can deliver for a split second during the crescendo of a song. putting 45 watts nominal output into a single DIN head unit isnt possible. this is why higher end head units dont even include an internal amplifier... because that amount of power cant be packed into such a small space and the manufacturer KNOWS that if you are dropping 500+ on a head unit, you arent going to be satisfied with 20ish nominal watts going to your speakers.

the amount of preamps your deck has can bring your plans on building a massive sound system to a screeching halt if you dont have enough. a line out convertor would work for a subwoofer but not for a 4 channel amp. should you decide to add an amp to drive your speakers later on, the amp in your head unit wont even matter, but the preamps will. your speaker wires (white gray green and purple) coming from the back of the deck would be cut, and the RCA jacks would serve as the output from the radio, into the amp, and from the amp, it will go back into the speaker wire behind the radio (which would not be connected to the radio, connecting it to the speaker wire is just way easier than actually taking your panels off and tapping directly onto the speaker. although for the absolute best result that would be the way to go)

pay more attention to things like the decks features, such as satellite radio ready, mp3/wma/aac playback... auxilary jacks are definitely nice to have. the vast majority of head units will be 50 watts max, 18 watts rms. so dont let them fool you by saying its a 50 watt amp because that 50 is misleading.

Guys thanks for your replies,

we have decided to go with this one purely just because of cost.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...ertainment.htm

like i said we dont need anything fancy, were not planning on putting subwoofers in the back lol

we just have standard speakers that came in our car with the blackpunkt /radio/cassete but they are good speakers as we have had an Sony cd player in there before but it died on us
but the sound quality from thse speakers were good for stock.

can that one listed above play cds ive written to disk? mp3 files?
