Actually SSD's are getting cheaper very quickly because in mobile devices such as UMPC's, small laptops and even the iPod Touch power, noise, durability and weight are concerns and the SSD out-does a mechanical drive in all of these ways and these devices are desirable and with many producers prices have to be low.

Blu-Ray is different, because it's now in a monopolistic position in the HD market prices can go up or down as much as they want and people will buy it.

It'll all happen much quicker than we expect I reckon, certainly Solid state h/d's. They will be the standard with 4-5 years at the latest, and by then they will actually be taking advantage of their extra speed (and maybe something will actually manage to to near PATAs limits, never mind SATA). Blu-ray though, I still dunno. People will only buy them for home use if they're cheap and when their dvd player has broken (the majority) and if it comes down to a £30 dvd player and a £60 blu-ray, people are gonna buy dvd.

I just sold my blu-ray player that came with my tv on ebay, I mean who the hell wants to spend ~$30 on each movie? I see blu-ray being more affordable in 2-3 years, 6 months I very much doubt.
