Default connecting laptop to network

Hi,
I have a new laptop I want to connect to my small business network. All is good the wireless works can use internet etc. My anti virus software is AVG - i paid for the internet security edition which gives you everything.

The problem is if either Windows XP firewall or the AVG firewall are enabled, I cannot access the rest of the network - transfer files between computers etc. There is probably a setting but I cant find it. Please can someone give me a quick walk through? Thanks

The second problem is Internet Explorer 7 is not displaying websites correctly. I know this because I have a friend with exactly the same laptop and when he comes over, there are more pictures on his websites, for instance google: the main google page is fine but when you do a search, the google logo that should be top left is replaced by just a text link "google", the background color of this website now is plain white - i dont know what colour it shoul be.... Any ideas?
