I shot for the speed of EVGA's SSC Edition, the top-of-the-line. Ran the fan at 70-100%, depending on how cool everything seemed to be running. My core clock was at 775MHz, and my memory was at 1020MHz (which is actually a touch above the SSC). Temps, however, were 70C. I didn't notice a huge increase in FPS, so I dropped it back down to stock as a default. Only run it OC'd when I really care to.
The G92'd GTS is a monster for its price point. Just enjoy the damn thing in stock form and OC it for kicks. Last edited by dave_w; 03-19-2008 at 09:21 AM. Reason: (sp) |

Hmmm, I was thinking of this also, is there much of a gain?

I used to overclock my XFX Alpha dog 8800GTS during the holidays, I forgot what the max stable frequencies for my card was, but I was able to play Crysis on High with AA, Call of duty with everything MAX and Command, Need for Speed Pro street on MAX but no AA or AS and Conquer tiberium wars with everything MAX.
The temperatures I can remember, they were 48 degrees when idle at stock and 55 when idle and overclocked, then 60 and 75 degrees respectively under load. These temperatures were in January which in Australia is the height of summer. |

Because uni has started in Australia so I only use my computer for uni related tasks, I don't play games anymore, at least until the holidays again, so I'm not overclocking my graphics card all the time. As you can see, there is definitely extra heat being generated and therefore more stress on the card, so I overclock only when I need the extra performance, I don't think I need to overclock my 8800GTS when I'm typing up an assignment in Office 2007.
