Help! Problem booting desk top that used to be networked

I recently got hold of a desk top that used to be networked. I will be using it as a desk top but when it starts up it boots directly into the network and asks for passwords which I dont have. How can I get to use this as a stand alone now? What i know about PC's I could write on a postage stamp... anyone help?

I have NO clue what you're saying/asking about the postage stamp...

As for logging in, we need to know what OS you have. If it's NT/2000/XP, then you're pretty much lost without the password as most have system passwords, not just network passwords. If it's 95/98/ME, you should be able to just cancle it and get around it no prob...

The OS is win2000professional... would that be right? I can stop the boot up with f12 or f8, f8 to select the boot device, and f12 to boot off LAN. Is this any use to you?

No sorry its one of my old works PC's so i definatly know thats not the case. However rather than skip it I thought I could/may be able to use it to back up my laptop data. I hate the idea of losing my laptop and all my work.

Perhaps the skip is the place for it.. thought someone one might have an idea how I could get it running without buying a new hard drive as a friend suggested.

So the passwords are windows passwords? they are asked before or after windows boots? If it's a bios password then reset cmos.. if Windows then reinstal.

It's just an expression of how liffle muff knows about computers (so little that it could fit all on a stamp...)
