Well with your current board you cant do either one. If you stay with a AM2+ board your only choice at the moment would be crossfire. Unless you went back to a AM2 board with a 570SLI or 590SLI chipset.

nvidia chipsets suck, and two 3870's do outperform 8800GT's in SLI.
And you can get the sweet X38 or upcoming X48 motherboard
